Outlook 2003 Sort by "From" Column Problem

What happens is that when highlighting a
sender's name (e.g. Smith) in the Inbox and then clicking on
"From" to sort on name, sometimes the sorted list shows
highlighting the very first name in the Inbox e.g. Abbott not
the name that was selected i.e. Smith, other times it's done correctly
i.e. still highlighting Smith. Has anyone come across this
inconsistency and better still have a solution.

I'm seeing something very similar in Outlook 2007. The added annoyance that
I am seeing is that normally, when you sort on a column like "From", "To" or
"Subject", after sorting the column, when you start typing, Outlook would
jump to the emails that begin with the characters that you just typed in the
column that it is sorted by. For example, if i sort by the "From" field and
then type "CH", it would jump to the emails where the sender's name is
"CHRIS" for example. Ever since I've upgraded to Outlook 2007, there are
quite a few email folders where this sort of jump does not work when the
email is sorted by the "From" field. It works in some folders, but not
others. The shortcut always works when the email is sorted on the "Subject"
field.

My email comes from my corporate Exchange server. I've tried deleting my
cached Outlook.ost file and letting it get rebuilt from scratch and even
logging into other computers on the network, but the problem is always there.
I've even gone as far as uninstalling Office and completely reinstalling it
from scratch.

So far, I haven't been able to figure out what is different between the
Outlook folders where the problem exists and the folders where things work
just fine.
