Outlook 2003 "Show in Groups"

Gregg

Hello!

Outlook 2003 has a new "feature" called "Show in Groups" under the View,
Arrange By, menu when you are looking at your Inbox folders. It groups your
mail into days, weeks, a month, then groups the rest under "Older." I can go
to a folder, then click on View, Arrange by, and uncheck Show in Groups, to
make it sort the old way, but I have over sixty sub-folders of my Inbox. Is
there a way to turn off Show in Groups globally for all folders, current and
new?

Thanks for helping!

go into views, arrange by, customize, and open the define views dialog.
select the view by name (not "current view") and Modify to remove the
grouping. This will apply to all views that use the view and aren't
one-offed. If you haven't customized views much, you should restart outlook
with the /cleanviews switch before changing the view - this will remove the
one-off views.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is a "one-off view"?

Diane,

Thank you for responding. My folder structure is an Inbox with multiple
sub-folders. I started Outlook with the /cleanviews switch, which set
everything back to the obnoxious grouped arrangement. I followed your
suggestion to "go into views, arrange by, customize, and open the define
views dialog. select the view by name (not "current view") and Modify to
remove the grouping."

That gives the same result as going to a folder, then clicking on View,
Arrange by, and unchecking Show in Groups, but it only applies to the
current folder and not to any sub-folders. I am looking for a way to set ALL
folders and their subfolders to NOT be grouped, and to have that setting
apply to all subsequent subfolders created under the Inbox folder.

Another problem I noticed is that messages are not marked as read when I
view them in the reading pane until several minutes after I have viewed
them, if at all. I had the default 3 seconds to mark them as read, and I
tried changing that up and down, to no avail. They sometimes will not get
marked as read at all, no matter how long the message is displayed in the
reading pane. If I double-click the message and then close it, it gets
marked as read.

Any ideas?

Gregg Hill
