Outlook 2003 - Shortcuts did not appear after upgrading/disappear after restart

Brent MacDonald

Hi All,

We have upgraded approximately 30 pcs from Office
2000/2002 to Office 2003 so far with only one upgrade
causing any problems.

For one user who uses the "Shortcuts" available in Office
2000 extensivly, when he upgraded, all but a handfull of
the shortcuts failed to appear after the migration.

He since recreated all of the shortcuts. Upon closing and
restarting Outlook, his shortcuts dissapeared, and he was
left with only the original few in the shortcut pane.

Has anyone experienced this problem before? Do you know
of a work-around or fix?

Many Thanks,

Brent.

shortcuts are stored in an XML file in one of the username's /application/
directories. I would try renaming it and see if the new one works better.

Hello Diane,

Thanks for your quick reply!

I followed your advice with these steps:
- copied the userID.xml file to a server location and
deleted the original from the /applications folder
- after restarting outlook, the shortcuts reverted back
to the handfull mentioned below.
- we then added a new shortcut and restarted outlook.
The new shortcut was again missing upon restart.

Any other recommendations we could try out? Do you know
if there could be a setting on the server that may be
influencing this problem?

Your assistance is very much appreciated!

Kind Regards,

Brent MacDonald.

I was having this problem after upgrading a user to Outlook / Office
2003 and found did the following to fix the issue:

I was originally creating Shortcut Groups with special characters in
them. I deleted the username.xml file under the user's profile -
application data\outlook and then created new shortcut groups, but did
not use any special characters. The shortcuts have yet to disappear.

Good Luck!
