Hi.
I'm using Outlook 2003 on Windows XP on a Dell portable. I'm having a
persistent problem with Search folders. My mail files are in a in
d:\work\mail\crypict_name\, which is not rooted in a special folder like "my
documents"; Outlook is in in c:\program files\microsoft\office11.

I have Search Folders set up for each color follow up flag, and I map the
flags to the my work areas: red means one kind of issue, yellow another, etc.
Until recently, they worked well.

Recently, 2 of them turned inactive without any conscious action on my part.
Their font became italic and they had no content. I could not select them
using a left click, and when I used a right click, Outlook restarted.

I have run outlook.exe /cleanfolders per note 831402. Now all of the search
folders are inactive, and if I right click any, Outlook restarts.

I have run outlook.exe /resetfolders per note 823127. I cannot see any
effect that this might have had.

I have cleared Outlook's cache of forms, per note 835215. I cannot see any
effect that this might have had.

I'd like to delete the inactivated search folders, but unless I can select
them, I can't delete them. Outlook crashes any time I try to select any of
them. I've tried selecting them in both the Favorites folder and in the the
Search Folders folder, without any luck.

Any ideas on how I can kill them? I just with to recreate them so they
work; and as there are 9 of them, I don't want 18 folders half of which are
useless, listed in my Favorites folder and using a lot of the mail-pane's
real estate.

Thank you.
Seamus

Tried it with /cleanfinders already?
Do the Search Folders still show in the Search Folders folder?
Do they work there?
If so, reset your Navigation Pane with the /resetnavpane switch

Additionally check your pst-file for errors with scanpst.exe
See http://www.msoutlook.info/question/77

Thank you, that was great!

Using the resetnavpane switch made them all "go away". After cleanfinders,
they existed in the Search folders folder and in Favorites, but were toxic:
right clicking either place restarted Outlook.

again, thanks a million,
Seamus

You're welcome! :-)
