Outlook 2003 - receipients receiving multiple copies of messages

I'm a new Office 2003 users. Often, when I send an email that has a file attachment (particularly large ones), the receipient receives multiple copies of it, even though I only send it once. The message stays in my outbox, even though it has been sent.

The only resolution I've found is to manually delete it from my outbox after I think it's gone through one time, which is obviously not ideal.

Anybody else experiencing this problem and/or know how to fix it? This is also happening to my two co-workers who recently upgraded.

Sounds like the same problem discussed this morning on
the thread. Are you using your virus software to scan
outgoing messages? If so, the solution offered was to
turn that feature off - only scan incoming messages and
other files. Not a great fix, but I've tried it with a
4MB file and it worked. Let's hope Microsoft is on the
ball and working to fix this.

I've been looking at the same problem and I picked up something elsewhere on the web that suggests modifying the send timeout period. The application assumes that the message hasn't been sent successfully if it exceeds the timeout and so leaves it in the outbox to retry. If it is still sending due to attachment size or ISP problems then you can get an issue where it keeps sending until it completes the message send within the timeout period.

Up your timeout, and you may well be on the road to being fixed...

Extending the timeout takes care of the problem! For anyone interested, here's how to do it:

1. Start Outlook

2. Click Tools -> E-mail Accounts

3. Select View or change existing e-mail accounts and Click Next.

4. Double Click your email account

5. Click More Settings

6. On Advanced tab, change Server Timeouts from 1 minute to 10 minutes.

Hi:

i tried making the timeout longer, not any help. i am running the corporate
addition to the Norton and i don't see where i scan email in or outbound, but
it has "realtime" protection.

sometimes it goes out of my outbox when i try to send it 2 or 3 times,
sometimes not, sometimes it acts this way when at home on my home wireless
network, some times not. same for being out of town.

my email recieptients are NOT happy.

thanks for your help

cheers

joe
