After upgrading from Outlook XP to Outlook 2003, I have
found a problem. My passwords don't work for my IMAP
accounts.

I have an Exchange Server 2000 that I am connected to.
I also have an IMAP server that I connect to using the
same profile, the IMAP server is an Exchange 2000 server
as well.
When I enter my password it just continues to ask for it.
I have checked the event log on the Exchange server and
found the following EVENT ID: 13003.
Logon attempt from 24.XXX.XXX.XXX to dvince has failed:
HrLookupCredentials() call failed with error Logon
failure: unknown user name or bad password..

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have found a work around solution, if I enable Secure
Password Authentication, it works fine. Problem is, I
have to enter my password and domain every time Outlook
2003 opens.

Thanks
Damien

Try changing your userid to the domain\userid style. (using just userid
means that it will look to the exhange servers local account database and
not the domain.)

Changing the userid to domain\userid style did not solve
the problem.

After doing this, the same Event ID came up:
Logon attempt from 24.XXX.XXX.XXX to domain/dvince has
failed: HrLookupCredentials() call failed with error
Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password..

Any other suggestions?

I have recreated the Email accounts and that didn't solve
it. I have a full install of Office 2003.

Thanks.
Damien

Due to the Swen virus, all e-mails sent to this account will be deleted
w/out reading.

How are you logging onto this desktop? (domain or local credentials? if
domain, is the domain\userid the primary mailbox holder? the reason that i
ask is that i remember a bug i found for pop3 access that when logging onto
the machine with one domain id [say jsmith] and trying to get another
mailbox [hjones] would always fail. was told that the bug isn't with
outlook, but another library that belongs to the operating system team.)

If you could enable transport protocol logging (under tools | options |
other | advanced options i believe), it might give a clue.

PS - you also might want to try domain\userid\exchange_alias for the userid
field.

I have enabled the logging option.

The computer I use to check the IMAP is an XP
Professional connected to a SBS 2000 server. The username
I use is different then the one I am connecting to on one
Imap server, but the same as the second IMAP.

So in testing your idea, I changed my passwords for both
accounts that have the same username to be the same...
and low and behold, that account works fine.

So do you know if there is a fix for this? I stay pretty
current on all Windows updates.

Thanks for your insight to this. My question is though,
why does it affect Office 2003 and not Office XP,2000, or
98?
