Outlook 2003 Failure to import contacts < different install/harddi

Due to numerous hardware and software failures, I did a complete install of
outlook on a new harddisk. I still have my contacts and groups on another
harddisk. I want to "import" the contacts from the old harddisk but am
unable to. Is there a feature within Outlook 2003 to allow this? Thanks for
any assistance ya'll may be able to provide!

Hi,

It depends on how they were backed up! If they were exported to a .pst
file, follow these instructions.

On the File menu, click Import and Export.
Click Import from another program or file, and then click Next.
Click Personal Folder File (.pst), and then click Next.
In the File to import box, specify the path and file name of the .pst
file you want to import.
Choose one of the following:
Replace duplicates with items imported. If any existing data in the
folder that you are importing to duplicates information in the .pst
file, it will be overwritten with the information in the .pst file.
Allow duplicate items to be created. Existing data in the folder you are
importing to will not be overwritten with the information in the .pst
file but will be kept instead.
Do not import duplicate items. Existing data in the folder you are
importing to will be kept, and any duplicate information in the .pst
file will not be copied to the folder.
Follow the remaining instructions in the Import and Export Wizard.
Microsoft Outlook copies the items from the .pst into the folder you
specify.

Thank you for your reply Mr Kinney!

Unfortunately, your answer is already included with basic
importing/exporting of outlook files and I need a little more assistance. No
files on my OLD harddisk were exported or "saved" from outlook.

I need to find a way to have the present install of outlook find a way
to 'read' the contacts file from my old disk. Maybe this isn't importing
them, but actually copying or reading directly from the old file. I may need
to know the "NAME" of the old file and possibly an "INDEX" file should
outlook require it!

Hi,

Do a search for *.pst on the old drive. You should see Outlook.pst
and Backup.pst. Try importing one of these from with in Outlook.
