Outlook 2003 Does't Retain Navigation Pane Settings

When I click on the folder to display the folder list view, expand my inbox
node to show subfolders, close outlook, and then reopen it; it doesn't retain
my settings. It always defaults back to the Mail view in the navigation pane.

I have Windows XP Professional SP 2 with Tablet PC Edition 2005. Outlook
2003 Basic Edition with SP1 installed.

I am experiencing the same problem on a new MotionComputing 1400 TabletPC,
but not on any other PC in my company (including an Electrobaya Scribbler
TabletPC).

I've also just spent several hours on net and phone with MS support who
were unable to solve the problem and have forwarded it to 'Research'.

Which TabletPC are you using?
Wnat other software are you running on your TabletPC?

I'm wondering if the Softex OmniPass fingerprint password/profile software
is somehow interfering with Outlook obtaining the UI configuration data.

Mine is a Gateway M275. I was running only the OS and Office when I was
having this trouble. However, my problem mysteriously went away after 7
formats and reinstalls. I called Microsoft support and spent $35 for the same
answer you received. I thought you were only supposed to pay for a
solution??? Anyway, I wish I could tell you the answer. I am still following
up with Gateway and Microsoft.

I did find that if I open Outlook, click around on a couple items it will
retain my settings. It's only when I would close it, reopen it without much
delay I was running into this issue. The MS tech I got on the phone said he
thought it might have something to do with Outlook writing settings to your
profile. I went in a removed ALL item pertaining to Outlook and let it
recreate them.

On another note which I don't know is related is I was seeing a lot of
errors in the event log about settings not being written to the registry
properly. I installed the UPH cleanup (User Profile Cleanup Utility). I fixed
those errors. It may have had some impact on the Outlook issue.
