Outlook 2003 - Default Newsreader

Hi,
I've just installed Office 2003 Pro, as an update to my existing Office XP
suite. However, when I access these NG's from Outlook, it starts Outlook
Express and warns me it's not the default program. Is there a different NG
reader that comes with Office 2003, or do I still use Outlook Express. I
know there are better one's out there - it's just that I don't do NG's very
often, and this is quite easy to use.

TIA,

Peter

OE remains the news reader for Outlook. However, you should answer "no" when
OE asks you to make it the default so that you can continue to launch OE
from within Outlook's interface.

Hi, and thanks for the reply.

Following on from that, however, I seem to have lost the facility to add a
'News' menu item button on the new toolbar. It's even missing from the 'Go'
menu :-(

Any help would be appreciated.

Not a surprise. You probably made the mistake of doing what was perfectly
logical. You answered yes to OE's request to make it the default news
reader. "Logic" and "Outlook" do not belong in the same sentence.
To get the News command back, go back to the Programs tab in Control Panel |
Internet Options and change the default newsreader to Outlook Express.
Then, when OE prompts you to make it your default newsreader the next time
you launch it, clear the "Always perform this check..." box and then click
the No button.
