Outlook 2003 - Can I go back?

I recently upgraded to Outlook 2003 and whilst I love the User
Interface and many of the new features I am having significant
problems with it keeping "not responding".

I haven't got the latest updates for it, cos I'm also having problems
with Office Update no longer working for me (interesting
conicidence?)!

Plus, as I'm not yet using Word 2003, I cant use Word as my e-mail
editor (which I used to use a lot because I use Autcorrect to insert
blocks of text in e-mails) plus I cant use the Outlook address books
in Word anymore.

As Word 2003 is a little way off for me, I'm beginning to think the
only short term solution to all this is to go back to Outlook 2000.

So, my question is: Can I go back?

I know my PST files will have to be in the old format (I have several
PST files and luckily I haven't yet converted any to the new format
except the base Personal Folders file.

But can Outlook 2000 handle PST files that have been updated by
Outlook 2003.

TIA,

JohnK

No, Outlook 2000 can't handle the new PST file format. Also keep in mind
that Outlook doesn't auto-convert any existing PST files.

So is your go back mean an uninstall of Office 2003 and go back to Office
2000 or you want to run a mix n' match of Office 2000/2003? (To answer the
question, yes you can always go back but it is better to find out why you
are having the instability.)

I know Outlook 2000 cant handle the new PST file format. However, if I
move everything out of the One new PST file I've got, into one of the
old PST files I'm using, the question is: Will Outlook 2000 be able to
use those old format PST files even after Outlook 2003 has messed with
them.

The instability I'm having seems to occur in two places:
2003 goes into Non Responding mode either when attempting to download
e-mails for a POP3 server, or it locks and a little message tells me
its trying to talk to Exchange Server - However my network doesn't
have Exchange Server (of any variety!).

It may well be that the latest updates may include a fix for these
problems, but as Office Update will now no longer work, I'm a bit
stuck...

Thnx

As long as the PSTs are still in ANSI format (i.e., OL 97-2002 format), then
yes.
