Outlook 2003 - Blocking .MAT file extensions

R

Ryan Sellschop

A user in our company is receiving files from a customer
with ".MAT" file extensions and Outlook 2003 is blocking
the files.

The user receives the message outlined below when
receiving the files:

"Outlook 2003 blocked access to the following potentially
unsafe attachments"

I've come across various knowledge base articles that
indicate the specific file extensions that Outlook blocks
but none of the articles reference ".MAT" file extensions
as being restricted.

I would appreciate any help that anyone may have in
rectifying this issue.

Hmm, I can't even get a .MAT file to attach to an email in Outlook
2003, 2002 or 2000. How are you doing it?

..MAT isn't listed among the restricted attachments among any of the
lists I've received from Microsoft. If I could attach a .MAT file I'd
test for restrictions on them and add that extension to my Attachment
Options adding.

In the meantime your option is to either edit the registry and add
..MAT to the Level1Remove value or to adjust the settings in the
Exchange security form if you are using Exchange Server. For
information on both options see
