Hey guys

Does anyone know offhand what the attachment limit is for Outlook 2003?
Also, is the limit based on number of files, or total size of the
attached files?

TIA

Outlook doesn't really care, unless the file is too big for it to handle at
all.

Can I ask what the problem is that you're actually trying to address? Do you
really have a problem with outlook or with trying to send attachments?

You're much more likely to have problems with limits on email attachment
size set by an ISP than you are with Outlook. Personally, I would regard
anyone sending me an attachment >5Mb in size without clearing it with me
first to be a bit of a jerk. And while some people are probably looking at
that "5Mb" and thinking about how fussy I am, there will be plenty of others
reading that number and sputtering in indignation about how many people's
email accounts would collapse in a heap if everyone followed my guideline
above.

Well, it's not a problem I'm having, it's a problem that a client's
having. This guy has one of those digital dictaphones, and is trying to
attach his voice notes to an email to send to his typist.

I did find out today however that he's been trying to attach 79 files
(I think they're .wav's or mp3's, I don't know exactly) to an email! I
told him he'd be better off either zipping the files into one zip
archive or just copying the files to the typist's PC ^_^

The client's problem almost certainly has nothing to do with Outlook, but
rather than the size of the message he's trying to send and it acceptability
to the email systems - his ISP and the destination ISP. Outlook is only
presenting the rejection messages.

Until recently, most email systems topped out at a little over 1 megabyte
for attachments. His message is likely many times that size, and the
email servers will reject it as an act of self-protection.

The best bet is to either copy the files to CD or some other media, or use
FTP to transfer the files to a site the recipent has access to.

So what is the exact sequence of events and the problem that is actually
occurring?
