Outlook 2003 address book issues

BeeZee

This is a new office outlook configuration. Address book
worked fine in old outlook express.
When attempting to access the address icon to the left of
the "To:" line, after a long delay (about 2 minutes) a
message pops up "Can't contact LDAP directory server
(81)".
At that point, I can use my contact list to select a
single or multiple recipients.
What can I do to remedy this very annoying situation?
When I first open outlook, I am asked for connection
details for LDAP directory. The defaults in the dialog
box are:
Server name: NULL
Port: 3268
User Name: NULL
password: <this is blank>
I respond by clicking OK, for lack of knowing what else
to do.
Assistance from the expert community would be appreciated.

I don't know what an LDAP is. The issue never arose for
the years I used OL Express. I followed all of the
instructions followed by the link you were kind enough to
provide. The problem still persists. What would you
suggest I try next?
Thanks.

Are you even using an LDAP?
If not configure Outlook to use the Outlook Address Book instead and remove
the LDAP.

Then I doubt you actually removed the LDAP service. Try again.

books.

That mostly did the trick. No longer have 2 minute delay,
but I still have to select contacts because address book
shows as empty. I thought address book was a link to
contacts. I can live with this. Thanks very much for your
help.

The Outlook Address Book will always be empty. It's just the holder for the
Contacts Folders you want to display. Just set the Outlook Address Book to
show your Contacts Folder first in Tools > Options...
