I got some type of virus which only affected connecting to
the internet on my computer. Unfortunately I had to wipe
everything clean and reload everything. I did however
backup my Office files. Am I able to retrieve my old
emails and my address book from the backup?

if all you did was back up your office files then the answer is probably no.
Your Outlook data is kept in a pst file, the location of which is NOT the
same as your office files. Typically, (if you are using windows XP),
C:\Documents and Settings\"Your User Name"\Local settings\Application
Data\Microsoft\Outlook\.
