Outlook 2002 Inbox folder disappeared Cannot find it in a search

I have Outlook 2002 and keep several folders under my "Inbox" to keep
incoming mail organized. Today one of my folders completely disappeared.
I've tried a complete search, looked at the Archive folder and all the other
folders to see if it was accidentally placed in another folder. The folder
is no where in Outlook. Where could it have gone? How can I retrieve it and
all the emails in that folder?

The best insurance against losses like this is by having a recent backup of your
PST file(s). See this link for more info:

Outlook 2003/2002 Add-in: Personal Folders Backup

I have mine setup to automatically backup on a daily schedule. This happens
after Outlook is opened and then closed, but only once in a 24 hour period.

If you already have this utility installed, there should be a recent copy of
your PST file available. If so, open it in Outlook and then copy the subfolder
and its contents to your regular PST file.

Another suggestion: It may be safer to create these unique folders under the
main heading "Personal Folders". If you have the Outlook Bar visible, you can
then create shortcuts to these folders and simply drag & drop messages into them
from the Inbox. An alternate approach would be to create rules that
automatically move applicable incoming messages to these folders.

Thank you for your answer. I will create subfolders under the main folder
"Personal Folder" create a daily back-up as you suggested. This will help me
from losing important emails in the future. I would still like to know where
the folder went and if there is a way to retrieve it.

I'm assuming that you have checked the Deleted Items folder also. If so, and if
the folder can not be found either in your active PST file or the archive PST
file and you have no backups of either one, then you can consider the folder and
its contents to be gone, for reasons unknown.

Yes I have checked every folder and subfolder in Outlook. I've noticed a
couple of other subfolders are now missing. Could this be a virus?

I'm not aware of any virus that attacks subfolders in Outlook, but that doesn't
mean it can't happen. Do you have an anti-virus app installed and operating on
your system? If so, is it up-to-date and have you recently run a full system
scan?

If no joy, another approach would be run the Inbox Repair Tool that is supplied
with Outlook. See this link for more info:
http://www.slipstick.com/problems/scanpst.asp

If still no joy, try running the Detect and Repair utility. It's accessed from
the Help menu in Outlook.

Good Luck!
