Outlook 2002: "find" doesn't find text in "Notes" - Why not?

Find does work in general - it finds the text if it is in the name or other
fields, just doesn't find it if the text is in the Notes field.

Is there a filter which tells find where to look and where not to look?

Sorry - I meant to specify that I was searching in "Contacts" and that the
Notes field had the text for some of the "contact" entries. - I hope that
this clarifies the question.
