Outlook 2000 won't close

We have just encountered a problem with Outlook 2000 not closing completely
and it is happening on two of our computers. We first noticed the problem
when we logged on the computer the next day - there was email waiting even
though we know we closed Outlook. We experimented a bit and found after
rebooting, opening Outlook and closing it, the small box isn't coming up as
it normally does about 'waiting while Outlook exits'. But, if we go to task
manager (Windows 2000 Pro) nothing is showing up as being open. What could
be causing this? I have resorted to restarting the computer before I leave
each day just to be sure Outlook is closed because we leave our computers on
all night for the scheduled daily virus scanning.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Are you looking under the application or processes tab in task manager?

In any event, things that keep Outlook resident is... (and this list isn't
inclusive...)

* Using Word 2000 as the email editor and Word is still running after
outlook closes
* WinFax
* ActiveSync
* Antivirus software
* Virus/Worm
* Accessing the exchange mailbox with Outlook 2003 and then coming in behind
with Outlook 2000

Thank you - we were only looking under the application tab. It was still in
the processes tab. But I think I've found the problem. Because you
mentioned that other programs could cause the problem it made me wonder if
it had anything to do with the fact that I recently installed OmniPage Pro
14 Office. I closed opware14.exe under processes and then opened and closed
Outlook a number of times. So far Outlook has exited properly each time, so
it appears that may be the cause. Thanks for your assistance!
