Outlook 2000 send/receive button has stopped working

When using Outlook 2000 SP3, or Outlook Express "send/receive" button I get
the following error message:

The TCP/IP connection was unexpectedly terminated by the server. (Account
'mail.bellsouth.net', POP3 Server: 'mail.bellsouth.net', Error Number
0x800ccc0f).

How can I fix this?
