Outlook 2000 re-install

R

Ross

I messed up my Outlook while attempting to fix other
problems.
I can only acccess an Archive Folder for Outlook Today and
I have lost most of my emails. They weren't available in
the backup I did before all this happened.

Detect and Repair does not work and neither does re-
install from the CD.
I get the message:
"The patch package could not be opened. Verify that the
patch package exists and that you can access it or contact
the application vendor to verify that this is a valid
windows installer patch package."

Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks

Yes I have tried that. It opens a backup file that isn't
complete. I suppose I could work from a completely
Archived folder. I can send/receive emails through it.
But the program itself is not very stable. I'm wanting to
re-install it, but I seem to be missing a necessary patch
package that Windows wants for installation.

Is yr origonal *.pst still available? (Search to include hidden)
do you get an error msg when trying to open it, in OL?
If so have you tried scanpst.exe

Thanks David,
I can't find the pst file on my computer that would hold
everything,( I'm sure I didn't set up the autoarchive to
include all folders), and being an idiot, I can't seem to
run scanpst.exe. It doesn't work from either the Run
utility or from the Dos prompt.

You should be able to run scanpst.exe by double clicking, in explorer, if
nothing else.
But if you cannot find any pst files, theres not a lot of point.
By default the pst file is called outlook.pst, search yr sys, to include
hidden, for outlook.*
I have come across instances where a file name has been 'altered' due to a
glych.
See here for default locations of pst;
http://www.slipstick.com/config/backup.htm#pst
then check the folder contents
