Outlook 2000 multiple processes running

I often get the situation where Outlook locks up and does'nt function. In
task manager I then find multiple Outlook processes running wheweas on the
screen only one process appears. The situation is resolved by ending all
the tasks but I am at aloss as to how they occur in the first place!
Any Ideas?
 
Most likely Outlook did not close completely earlier on. This can have
various reasons, e.g. add-ons. Run Outlook in safe mode (with the /safe
program switch), then check the task manager after closing OL to see if
an add-on may be causing it.
