Outlook 2000 Filter Failing on Duplicate Messages

Recently I started using Outlook, having been perfectly happy with Outlook
Express, because I bought a Sharp pocket device that will only synch with
Outlook.
I am using an Outlook 2000 that came with Office 2000, the other parts of
which were installed on my wife's machine.
I have a lot of filter rules imported from Express, most of which were
damaged during import and have now been repaired.
However, when I get two junk e-mails with the same subject, which happens
every couple of days, I get a Rule Error declaring that it can't remove the
item from the folder. This would not bother me much, except it also turns
off the rule, so I have to go back into Message Rules and turn it back on.
By any chance, if I get a newer version of Outlook, will either of the
following occur:
1. It will cope with messages with the same subject or
2. It will not shut off the rule

Technically, for most licensing, this is not legal. Just an FYI.

I doubt upgrading to a newer Outlook will fix this. See if this helps:
export your rules with the Rules Wizard, start Outlook once with the
/cleanrules command line switch, and reimport your rules.

Well, if the license says the whole suite has to be posted on one
computer, then fine. But if it says the components can only be used on one
computer, then I am okay. Actually, it is a contract violation, not a law
violation. Now if I could only get shrink wrap licensing on my blown glass.

I think you missed my point. Many of the rules were pruned when I
imported, yes, usually by losing all but the first of multiple reasons. I
repaired them all plus have added to them. I hesitate to wipe them all out,
only to find I am rebuilding 25 rules again.
But this rule 'If subject line contains "*****POSS" delete it.' has only
one part and it works fine, until duplicate messages arrive. Then the rest
come through and the box in message rules is unchecked. When I delete
manually and go into Deleted Items folder, there is always a duplicate. My
e-mail handler adds *****POSSIBLE SPAM***** to subject line of targeted spams.
BTW, I don't see that the built in filters are doing anything.

If you have an EULA for Microsoft Office, then it covers the suite as a
single unit and the components cannot be dissociated. Anyway, it was just
an aside and not meant to be a main part of the discussion.

I don't think I missed your point, but it's possible. Since you state that
you imported your rules from OE originally, I was trying to eliminate any
problems by saving your existing rules in an Outlook-native format, cleaning
out the hidden rule folder in hopes of eliminating any left over crud you
can't see, and reimporting your rules so that they are cleanly installed.
Perhaps it won't help, but you don't sound willing even to try it. That's
your choice, of course.
