Outlood 2003 Today - Help

S

Seawolf

When I open Outlook 2003 I have it set to go to "Today" which it does.
Displayed in "Today" are several folders which I selected to desplay such as
"Inbox", "Sent Items", etc. When I clicked on the hyperlink for "Inbox" it
went directly to my inbox without problems. Today all that changed. Now
when I click on "Inbox" I get a grey page with the message "Unable to
display the folder. Microsoft Office Outlook could not access the specified
folder location." The box that shows the file location box shows
outlook:/./\Personal%20Folders\Inbox. However, if I select "Inbox" from the
"Go\Folder\Inbox" drop down menu, "Inbox" opens fine and the file location
box shows outlook:Inbox.

I know the problem lies with the file location properties but am unsure how,
or even if, it can be changed. Any assistance in resolving this problem is
greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

I have the same problem on my main system, it happened right after installing
IE7 Beta 3 over IE6. I have uninstalled Outlook 2003, reinstalled it,
recovered from a backup. Still the same issue. Keep getting: "Unable to
display the folder. Microsoft Office Outlook could not access the specified
folder location." on the gray screen.

I did a search, and the only thing I found was for WinNT 2003 fixes for
Exchange, using an ADPIedit.exe program... but I do not think this applies
here.

I done a few update runs, but this does not find an update even after I
uninstalled & reinstalled Outlook, Word, Excel, & Powerpoint 2003.

I also install IE7 Beta 3 over IE6 this morning. Right after that all the
problems began. I did not have this problem with IE7 Beta 2 so did not think
that the problem was associated with Beta 3. Guess I will uninstall Beta 3
and revert back to IE6 until they get the problem worked out unless somebody
comes up with a fix.

I found out how to uninstall IE7 the hard way, after resorting to other
methods.

Internet Explorer 7 Beta 3 was NOT in the Add/Remove Programs folder.
But... there is a folder in Windows labeled "ie7b3", and the second folder
in "ie7b3" the spunid folder. Run the executable there. This uninstalls IE7B3
and puts back IE6.

Hope this helps.

I talked with IE7 technical support about the problem with Outlook as
described in my original post. He had me uninstall IE7 beta 3, reboot into
safe mode with networking and then redownload and install IE7 Beta 3 using
the "run" command. It would not install in safe mode. So bottom line
according to him is that it is a new bug and a case ticket has been issued.
They will contact me within the next 3 days with hopefully a possible
solution. In the meantime I'm back to IE6.

I post any response I get back from technical support into this tread.

After several discussions with technical support, they have confirmed that
this is a new bug with no readily available solution other than to return to
IE6 which I have done. The return to IE6 eliminates the problem.
