I have just installed XP Servie Pack2 and on restarting my pc outlook express
is demanding the password that I set up ages ago and have forgotten. Is there
any way I can delete the password value in the registry so I can retrieve all
my email and accounts??!! ANy help VERY gratefully received many thanks

David,

You can retrieve your messages & Address book until you figure out the
problem. Do a search for your .dbx files (make sure you have the Advanced
search options checked, ie search hidden files & folders, search
subfolders), click 'Edit' > 'Select all' > copy & paste into a safe folder.
Now open Windows Explorer and go to C:\Documents and Settings\'Your
name'\Application Data\Microsoft\Address Book\ the file is 'your name.WAB'.
Save that in a safe folder.

I have a similar problem and requested help on 9/2.
Still awaiting a response from someone with a highter IQ
than I. Very frustrating,as cannot delete the password
without first knowing it!!. I temporarily solved my
problem by doing a System Restore to an earlier date
before I installed SVc Pk 2. I could then access E mail
but I lost the Svc Pk upgrade. I would like to have both!
If you solve the problem or someone solves it for you,
can you please reply to me at Ron on 9/2 Thanks

Are you talking about your Outlook Express password? Your ISP knows
it. Call them.

And you recieved a response, exactly the same as the original poster in
this thread.
Seems you are posting via CDO and do not know to click on the + signs to
see the responses.

Hi Ron,

In addition to what Kath has replied: Use as extra info....

Identities are missing in Outlook Express after re-installing

While you are logging in, run cmd.exe. If the current directory is something
like c:\windows\system32\config\systemprofile, try this:

1. Determine your profile directory (username, it is most
likely "%SystemDrive%\Documents and Settings\username")
2. Start/Run/Regedit
3. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList
4. Look for subkeys other than S-1-5-18, S-1-5-19, S-1-5-20 that contains
ProfileImagePath=%systemroot%\system32\config\systemprofile
5. Change it to "%SystemDrive%\Documents and Settings\username
6. Close regedit.
7. Logout and Login.

Hi Bruce,

Have had contact with the OE "Crystal Ball" crew and the answer is no. The
ISP would not know the OE identity password.

Hi Kelly,

A few days ago, I called Cox Communications, my ISP, for an unrelated
problem. While I had them on the line, I asked the tech how I could
verify my password as I had changed it about a year ago and I thought
I remembered it, but I didn't want to screw up by unchecking
*Remember my password* and not be able to get back in. After giving
him personal info the confirm I was me, he told me what my password
was. So, maybe they don't all know, but Cox does.

Regards,

OK. That would explain it.

You are talking about a different password.

<LOL> But hey, I didn't mention any names! In addition, I think he
understands now the difference between the two. :o)
