"Out of memory"

Job Andersson

When I try to add Vista clients to the domain I get the normal error and I
must install the patch "Update for Windows Small Business Server 2003:
Windows Vista and Outlook 2007 compatibility (KB 926505)". Ive done this
before and it always works after this patch is applied.

However:
When I try to run this patch on some new ACER Notebooks I get an error:

"out of memory" and installation of patch fails.

This problem makes me unable to connect Vista clients to out server.

What causes this error? Ive seen it before on some threads, but never with
ConnectComputer Wizard.

Notebook hardware specs are above recomended, and it is not lack of
physical memory that is the problem. Notebooks works fine in any other aspect.

Help with this is much appreciated, thanks.

I heard somewhere that the patch is included in Vista SP1, so if you're
planning on installing that any time soon, you could try that and see if the
SP install works better than the compatibility update. If you're concerned
about the time to install the SP, you might want to research and verify that
I got good info about the update being contained in the SP.

Consider applying Service Pack 1 to the Vista clients - I think that
includes this patch?

However, take a good look at the information about incompatible drivers
relating to SP1 for Vista--I've got 4 Dell laptops running Vista SP1, and
two of them had significant issues until I removed the Intel Video drivers
and let a replacement be detected and installed via Microsoft Update.

The other thought would be to kill temporarily any Acer-specific drivers or
applets to see if you can find the conflict.
