Oultook 2003 and Newsgroups

It's been quite a hassle getting Newgroups to work.
You have to make your Default Outlook Express and
it will work perfectly! Don't select Outlook News Reader
has your default or the NEWS will dissappear under GO.

What they are doing here is actually using Outlook Express
as the Outlook News Reader and as long as you set your
default to Outlook Express, you click on NEWS under GO
it will open and work just fine....(a small glitch in Outlook 2003)

You can of course use a desktop shortcut, and byepass OL or IE access. eg
"%ProgramFiles%\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /outnews

I tried to do this but without success. I added the News
option under the Go menu as explained in Help (it wasn't
there originally) but when I click on it, it goes to a
blank web page http:///outnews. I'm successfully
accessing newsgroups via Outlook Express but I would
prefer to be able to use Outlook for Newsgroups as well
as email etc. Any suggestions as to what I am doing
wrong? I have got Outlook Express set as default news
reader as stated below.

I'm afraid David's reply is beyond my meagre skills!!

Rt click on desktop/New/Shortcut
Target is as below, as is including " (Copy and paste it)

"%ProgramFiles%\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /outnews

The %ProgramFiles% bit represents the path of the OE app eg
C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\
