hi,
when i try searching for the senders domain name in the from field, direkt
search in outlook 2007 gets no results.

for example i want to find all emails, that are FROM *@somecompany.com
outlook search does not sind them

BUT is i create a search folder with the criteria : FROM contains
'somecompany.com, the matching emails are found!

seems to be a bug, no?

please don't answer: 'so why don't you create search folders'! there are
additional exchange accounts in my outlook, where i do only have read access,
so i can not create search folders there.

No bug but improper usage. Do a search for "somecompany.com" instead. Works
as it should here. A * at the beginning of search is quite often not valid.

no sorry, missunderstanding: i do enter only "somecompany.com" in the search
FROM field. and this is what does not give me any result! if the emailadress
has the format 'Name Lastname <[email protected]> ', than only
'Name Lastname' can be searched, not 'someconpany.com' .

just try it yoursellf ...

I did try it. I have no issues searching that way. I did not specify it in
the From search field though; I just typed "somecompany.com" as the query
and got the results requested.

no, it's really not working. may be only the german version has that problem?
but the host part of the email addresses can not be searched, not over FROM
field search, not over the query all field. sure, if the host name appeares
in the email text body as well, than it will be found there, but if it is
only in the headers, it can not be searched.

The language doesn't matter in Office 2007 anymore as functionality and
interface has been split in Office 2007. But I have tried it in German as
well (got English, Dutch and German installed) and have not been able to
repro. When I do a search on for instance hotmail.com I can see the
hotmail.com part highlighted in the From field indicating that the result is
being displayed because of that part.
