"others using computer" when signing off

When I shut down the computer, I sometimes get a window
that says in effect that others are using the computer
and if I shut down information may be lost. I have to
click an "okay" or "yes" to continue the shut down. I
only have one computer and I'm concerned that others have
access to my computer. Is there some explanation?

Are you certain that you have not used the Switch User
capability and you actually have a login that you have
switched out from (but not logged out from)? If not, then
next time try r-click on My Computer and select Manage
and then drill into the Shares node to see is some shares
are being accesses over the network.
