OT: Which retail DVD / CD burning software

S

smlunatick

I know that most people here would recommend other burning software
but I would like to know which retail software to consider. In my
area, both Roxio Creator 2009 and Nero 9 are on sale this week.

Of those two, buy whichever one costs less. The most significant
difference between them is their differing interfaces.

However, if you've no need for resource-wasting wizards and other GUI
bells and whistles, and aren't addicted to spending money, I'd recommend
CDBurnerXP (http://www.cdburnerxp.se/), which is free.

I didn't like that one. Burn4free was very good but there are a number
of other free ones out there. After I got a bundled version of Record
Now with a burner I no longer use the free versions.
Unless you need the extra bells and whistles of the paid versions I
wouldn't bother with them.

I like Nero. Had them both and like some of the features,
specifically Nero has a 'verify after burn' feature. Granted I've not
used Roxio for years, but it didn't then.

Another suggestion is, yes, some may say they are bloated but they do
have tools to do things like create DVDs, Music libraries, etc. Each
has its little features. The first responder is right, CDBurnerXP is
straight forward and burns data to the CD. But what do you want to do
beyond that? That's more the question you need to answer.

Good luck.

We certainly don't all have the same views and preferences, but if
you're looking for votes, I vote for Nero, which I prefer.

None of the above. Instead, I'd vote for *both* EZCD 5 and Nero 6. And
don't install the packet writing stuff (DirectCD and InCD).

I can't speak for Roxio, I have used Nero since version 4. My advice is to stay
away from Nero 9 until it's fixed. The installer is wrecking file associations,
and auto play items. My Support email from Nero stated that they would rectify
this in a 'near' future release of Nero 9. Appart from that I don't see much
difference in performance or, or reliabilty from Nero 8.

Also the Nero 9 installer does not prompt you with options to associate,
particularly multimedia files, with Nero 9's ShowTime 5.0.1, or whether to leave
them as is, it associates them all to ShowTime, then for each multimedia file type
(.IFO, .VOB, .MPG, .MPEG, .MP3, .MOV, .FLV,...,etc) played through ShowTime,
you're prompted with Nero Patent Activation. They claim this will be recitfied in
the next release sub-version of 9. If you don not have a BluRay burner, nor a
HD-DVD, Nero 6 is quite a good choice, as is Nero 7, if you leave out, and remove
the muck Nero 7 throws in an installation.

Sorry, I meant Nero in general, not any specific version. I haven't
used Nero 9 myself.
