What's the deal with all these "no longer available" posts?

TIA,
Andy

What's the deal with all these "no longer available" posts?

You should probably read up on how the usenet works.

Posts that are no longer available are directly related to
which news server your getting them from. And we're
all using different ones.

Looks like you're using NTL Internet. Your messages are
stored on their servers. I take it that they are your
internet service provider?

Actually, the posting host doesn't matter at all. As far as
*reading* goes, it depends on the news server you're connected to,
not your ISP.

Andy's connecting directly to the msnews servers, which you can tell
by looking at the Path: header of his message.

The msnews servers evidently went through a significant event
yesterday. It's entirely possible that messages were lost or that
messages haven't propagated fully across the server farm. I've found
today that sometimes whether a message is available or not depends
on which of the ms servers I connect to.

NTL is indeed my ISP, of sorts.

Thanks for the info J.E.

Hey Jordon,

The first link I found said "the first thing to understand about Usenet is
that it is widely misunderstood" -- LOL!

Care to suggest some reliable sources?

Rgds,
Andy
