OT: Sony VAIO w/Office 2010 - Is It Paid For?

Just got a new Sony VAIO laptop that came with Office 2010
installed.

But when I go to open it, it wants a 25-character Product Key.

Is this just marketing ware or did I miss something in the
packaging?

Depends. It may have been pre-loaded with a trial copy, rather than
a paid-for copy. That is, it's there, installed, but not licensed
until you buy a license from MS.

I'm just guessing about it, though. You'd have to read the fine
print.

That's the problem: no print, fine or otherwise.... only the
assertion that it comes "With MS Office 2010".

I guess I was just wishing.... hoping that somebody would say
that there sb a document or a piece of paper or something in the
packing....

My MSDN licenses are all used up - although I'm guessing that
with a half hour on the phone I could free up a few bco PCs that
have come and gone.... but I think I'll just go with OpenOffice
on this one until the need arises for something more.
