OT: search name for thumbnailer with automation?

I'm having devil of a time finding a thumbnail program that does more
than just make thumbnails - one that also creates a browsing system to
the original files but that is _not_ html-based. I'm guessing there's
one out there if I could just find it that will 1) create thumbnails
of the directory I choose and also 2) make the browsing system to the
original graphics by just clicking on each of these thumbnails but
that is not based on html.

Anyone know of anything or what magic word I'm missing to bring up an
better, more automated system? I don't like Irfanview's
unsophisticated, unpolished output. It requires manipulating and
tweaking to make into something decent. And I need an easy-to-use
freeware to make a thumbnails menu plus originals as a part of a
multi-component photo CD for showcasing artwork for myself and
friends/family as well as other items.

Thanks.

p.s., if you need to _just_ make thumbnails, Easy Thumbnails by Fookes
makes high-quality images:

Darn, it seemed so promising, too.

First off, tricky to figure out and configure. You definitely can't
just start using without a learning curve/tweaking. But hey, could
have lived with that - would work at it till I knew how to make
project and then take a ton of screenshots so next time around didn't
have to figure it out all over again.

But this is a "close but no cigar" type of deal. End result is
basically just a slideshow. I already have that with another app that
frankly does a much, much better job and is much more user friendly
(info posted below). This one shows preview of only two images at a
time. Once I accidentally hit a button that did give me a total
thumbnail view which is what I needed (it didn't default to that) once
I clicked on an image on that thumbnail screen, though, it went right
back into slideshow mode and back to only being able to preview 2
images at a time.

So that's why close, but it doesn't cut it. <sigh> Ah well, back to
the drawing board.

Thanks! Really, really appreciate the help and info. Always fun to
try out new stuff.

Here's the app I mentioned above:

My Photo Slide Show PE v1.11.154
http://www.copseystrain.com/myphotoslideshow/

Download free-for-personal one from here:
http://www.copseystrain.com/myphotoslideshow/download.html

Very easy to to create and view slideshows and my friends/family have
all figured out how to view everything I've ever emailed to them with
no problem. And I've emailed quite a few slideshows since I started
using it in 2002.

Thanks, Susan! Missing magic words seem to be "photo album" in
conjunction with "thumbnail" since thumbnail alone doesn't give needed
results. Many and better hits so far.

Will check them out and will report back if I find something good.

Cheers! :blush:D

HOW DID YOU DO THAT?????? :)

FotoAlbum has a lot of options for thumbnails but I've *never* seen just
two. Options for viewing thumbnails are: small, medium, large,
automatic, custom. On my 15-inch monitor *small* displays 121 to 143
thumbnails (depending on where I set the pane divider) (*large* displays
20 thumbnails) just page or scroll down to see them all . . .

you can filter the thumbnail displays in lots of different ways to show
just the thumbnails you are interested in . . .

click on the H in the lower left corner of the screen to get a pane in
that corner with a larger view of the *selected* thumbnail . . .

it's an image browser - image organizer - photo CD maker . . .
etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.
it's *much* more than a slideshow app. . .
seems easy to use to me . . .
you might want to invest a little more time in it . . .

I've heard good things about that one - it's on my todo list . . .

Susan, thanks. I don't know how I came upon doing the 2 screen
preview. It wasn't a neat interface, btw. Sorry I dumped the app
earlier so can't go back to figure out what I did to give you the
info.

p.s., I _don't_ have time to invest more time in learning apps. If it
takes any inordinate amount of time, fussing or fiddling, I have to
give up when there is not a lot of show of promise. I didn't see that
in this app _for_what_I_need_it_to_do. Clunky interface all around.
But that's _my_opinion_, of course.

I tried one earlier this morning that is html-based and though I
didn't like the end result of this particular one, seems like answer
might in fact lie there. I tried an online demo of an html-based one
that doesn't seem half bad. I'll know for sure today, probably.

Thanks, appreciate the help!

p.s., Boomer rigorously looks for app that are small in size. I for
apps that are efficient and user-friendly. Just so you know where I'm
coming from.

I have only a small amount of apps re-installed on this current
installation, 134 _currently_, and another few hundred within easy
reach on various CDs. If they all required rocket science to run, I'd
be lost esp. with the ones I use infrequently.

YW Fitwell. IMO it's a terrific program - sorry it didn't work out for you.
