OT: Looking for freely distributable music

M

Mark Carter

Technically OT, but right ballpark ...

I'm looking to put some soundtracks to some videos that I'm putting
together. Its licence must allow redistribution.

I uncovered Yahoo Creative Commons Search. The problem is, it's like
finding a needle in a haystack as regards to the style I'm looking for
and redistributability.

Anyone able to offer any suggestions?

I guess what would be really nice is if there were some kind of virtual
Disc Jockeys who put together an ensemble of snippets, with links to
full songs.

It depends a lot on what kind of music you are thinking of.

If you are satisfied with modern youth music you can use automatic
music creation programs and set some parameters and make your own
music.

Look into programs like Acidpro, Band-in-a-box, Rebirth, Drumatrix and
other automatic music creating programs.

Band-in-a-box is the best bet for more normal music in loads of styles,
like jazz, latin, rock, etc..

have you looked at garageband.com ? Some of the artists have a
share/share-alike license on their downloads.

Good stuff. I haven't tried garageband before, but I had a quick check,
and it seemed to be the sort of thing I was after. It's a pity that
sites like these don't get more exposure, instead of people trying to
wade their way through a maze of twisty passages, all alike.
