OT kind of Transfer rates for Ipod and USB drive

I need about 50-60G of portable storage.
I was looking at a WD passport USB drive.
Someone pointed out that an Ipod has enough storage for my needs.
Anyone know how similar the transfer rates are?

PS
Having an Ipod player in my car would be much better than my cassette
player. I am thinking about getting Ipod and a cassette interface. My
favorite radio station went satellite only.

Both are USB2 so should be as near identical as matters.
