FF has a big problem ... that is just waiting to emerge when it becomes more
popular....

These extension and theme incompatibilities is its week point

They should have thought of another way to impliment this technology...
Now all the microsoft supporters can thrash back at FF
and say how shitty the browser really is.
And it is! Opera did what FF did 5 years ago!

Can you please pinpoint the trolling?
There is none.

On the otherhand YOU are a netcop, trying to tell what other people can post
or not!

But I would still like to have Duddits's permission : - )

kenny, I tried Opera a few weeks ago, but couldn't see any means of
ad-blocking. I use Mozilla browser (not FF) and find the extension Adblock
Plus, with it's stablemate Filterset.G Updater exremely effective at
blocking ads.
Does Opera have a means of doing this?
Genuine query, not a flame.

Try --> Proximodo

http://proximodo.sourceforge.net/

Proximodo acts as a mediator between the browser and the website. It "sees"
everything that is going on and, according to your choices, modifies headers
and html page content on-the-fly to make things right. You don't want pop-ups
and banners? Just activate the corresponding filters and they will disappear.
You want cookies to be deleted when you close your browser? Proximodo will do
it for you. You want a fast navigation in the pages you already visited? Page
caching will be forced.

Thanks Vrodok.
I guess my next question is - Yes, but is this (Opera + Proximodo)
neccesarily any better than the combination of Moz Browser + Adblock Plus +
Filterset.G Updater which I already have? Moz gives me pop-up blocking and
the Preferences Toolbar is brilliant for instantly dis/enabling so many
options. Maybe I've got fixated on Moz, but I feel really comfortable with
it now.
I only use it for browsing, as I had a severe and unfixable problem with
the email client :(
Opinions/flames welcome.

As am I (was using Opera for a while there, with Proxomitron; v4.5J). I've used
Proxomitron for quite a long time (perhaps even with Netscape 4.8[0]), and I
have found it to be a near *essential* piece of web-browsing software. Please
do not under-estimate the importance of a good local web-proxy.

I use both Opera (v9 b1) and Firefox (v1.5). Also have installed both Proximodo
and Proxomitron. The former (Proximodo) I had used for a little while, as I'd
been convinced that Proxomitron was blocking the Download-button on
www.mozilla.com (for Firefox v1.5), but it turns out the "problem" was related
to both of the "Prox's" blocking a certain outgoing browser-header; this has
since been cleared up, here, in both of the Prox proggy's.

Currently, I use F-F 1.5 & Proxomitron exclusively (with an occasional foray
into Opera, but rarely).

Hello Vodrok.
I want to stop images bigger than a certain size from downloading. Can
proximodo do that. And replacing the images block with alt text, a text
chosen by me or hiding them altogether.

Can it also stop pages from downloading if they surpass a certain size.

And let me revert color schemes on per site basis.

Thank you.

It's easy, just add your list of URLs to the file filters.ini in your Opera
profile folder. You can use * and ? wildchars.
You may also need to check, in your opera6.ini file, if under
[Adv User Prefs]
there is the line
URL Filter File=filter.ini
(path is not needed if filters.ini in in the same folder with opera6.ini)

If there isn't, add it (and do it with Opera closed).
That's all.

Useful links:
http://www.opera.com/support/mastering/kiosk/#url-filter
http://nontroppo.org/wiki/BlockAdvertisements

Following the instructions given in this last link, I also added a "Add to
Block List" item to my context menu for images.

No idea, sorry. I've never really "gotten into the 'guts'" of the proggy.
Perhaps the site, or a/the prog's Help file (?) might be better-able to help
you.

See the website; I faintly recall some mentions of si,ilar things.

Have fun :)

Not an idiot, just not a hobbyist.

It was intentional #&*#-stirring, just to draw traffic. The Inquirer
is known for that (though they also draw traffic by putting up useful
articles).
What did he expect for free, anyway?

A free target. ;)

The Inquirer, I think you're right. My post was "serious" though.

I've been using FF since .02 Firevulture, or whatever they called it.
Not sure if it's a Firefox F*ckup, a Microsoft Misstep, or a Personal
Problem, but every so often these upgrades don't work.
I had one of those upgrades from 1.0.7 to 1.5. I said gosh darn it!
several times. This sort of thing turns off everyday users and would
frustrate the IDIOT in the Inquirer article.

Thank God I'm a hobbyist and could gimmick my way around it :-)
