I know this is OT to this group, but I can't see the
first post (the question) in most of the threats. I can
only see the second post (the answers). Anyone
who have the same problem ?

I use Outlook express and Google to read newsgroups
and it's the same problem in both.

Yes, I've definately had the same problem, using Outlook Express with
Giganews, the news server made available to Comcast customers. This is the
major reason I switched to using the Microsoft Web interface. It's certainly
not perfect, but it doesn't tend to suffer this problem:

http://www.microsoft.com/office/com...=en-us&dg=microsoft.public.access&fltr=&exp=1

You'll need to obtain a "Passport" to post questions using the web
interface, but that's a fairly easy process.

Often times, the initial question on Google is either missing, or hidden
where one has to click on a link that reads "Show quoted text" near the
bottom of the first responder's answer.

Why not go directly to the Microsoft server (msnews.microsoft.com) with
Outlook Express?

There's a couple of other reasons I like the web user interface as well. I
really like the ability to receive notification e-mail messages, when someone
has replied to a post that I've marked for tracking. When using OE, one has
to switch between Newsgroups and their normal mail folders. Since I tend to
store A LOT of messages in the OE Newsgroup folders, the time to switch back
and forth is significant. With the web interface, I can switch back to my OE
e-mail without this delay. It's also handy to read messages from any PC with
an internet connection. If one uses several PC's throughout the day, as I do,
it's much harder to track messages where people might post back asking for
additional details.

Also, often times postings from a certain individual named Aaron are
blocked, so I don't have to read his rantings about mdb files. (I suppose
they may also be blocked on msnews.microsoft.com).

Actually, that's one possible reason for sometimes seeing replies & no posts
(the OP's original question): the original post never made it to the news
server you are connected to (possibly due to blocking) but the reply did.
For example, I use msNews, and I no longer see Aarons original posts (I
assume he is now being blocked) but I have seen what I assume are replies to
his posts made by people who are using different news servers that aren't
blocking his posts. In his case it can make for what seems like a pretty
one-sided conversation because the replies don't quote much of the original,
but I suppose that is just as well. :-)

Also, someone might not be seeing an original post because it hasn't made it
from the OP's newsserver to the one you are using *yet*, but it might show
up eventually.
