I guess that no. Most - if not all - services like this are commercial.

For chatting PC-to-PC with webcam I use MSN Messenger.
(some may consider MSN Messenger adware. But I don't bother, it is a small
non-invasive banner.)

Skype is also very good.

imho Cuphone is free for some calls in some countrys, not
everywhere. for example you won't be able to call someone
in poland, but you could call danemark. They say that you have
10 mn for free at each call, but i didn't try it out (because i use skype,
which cost only 2,58 Cts/mn).

No free call options. Try Skype.

or firefly :-)

http://www.freshtel.net/firefly/

which WILL let you call land phones and mobiles - you just need to have a
credit on the account (Aussie based) and you'll get a number that will also
allow folks to use their landlines/mobiles to call you on the net

Not free because you need credit.

In fact, I think that no such freeware exists:
There is a cost for the call because the phone companies need to receive
something for their services.

| Requires a phone? Skype does not

neither does firefly.. at least not that I've noticed in the time I've been
using it.

just a mic and a set of speakers..

but 'they' on other lines can call you, and you can call other PC's - and it
doesn't require XP like Skype :-)

Good deal. If that is made clear on the service's site, I
overlooked it. I am looking for and alternative to Skype for
computer<->computer VoIP, although, I do use Skypre's pay computer->PSTN
service. Thanks.

Neither does Skype.
Well, Win2000+. I am using Skype v1.0.0.106 successfully under
Win98SE, although, it is not supported. Newer versions, which support
dial-in and voicemail,however, are unreliable under Win98.
