OST File Format?

I have a need for the ability to programmatically read messages from the OST
file. Unfortunately, it appears that the OST file format, while apparently
similar to PST, is sufficiently different as to be unreadable by a PST
reader. Is anyone aware of the basic structure of the OST format, and how I
could go about reading data from it?

I Googled "read .ost files" and it appears you have to convert .ost to .pst
and then read. There was some dialogue about 2003 Outlook & Converter apps
giving error msg's with '03 re: MS changes made in '03. Here's a post below
of one converter that worked -
Google - investigate further unless some expert posts the perfect answer for
you.

Here is a link for converting .ost using an exchange recovery program. Works
great for Outlook 2003 orphaned .ost files.
