OS2/warp screen at startup

For some reason, for the past couple of months, whenever I start my machine
(Dell Dimension PIV, 2.8GHz, 1GB SDRAM, WinXP SP2) it sits on an "IBM
os2/WARP" screen for about a minute or so before continuing startup. From
there it goes to the standard WinXP startup animation. Doesn't seem to affect
the way anything runs, but it's still something different that I can't find a
root cause for.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
Chuck

There is an option in the BIOS that specifies whether a system is OS/2.
It sounds like you've got that set to "yes" instead of of "no". How this
could have happened all by itself is beyond me. Maybe someone was
fooling around with BIOS settings? Or perhaps you need to change the
motherboard battery and the system is losing its settings. It certainly
can't hurt to buy a new battery; they are only around $5USD.

Or else perhaps someone is playing a prank on you with a splash screen?

I'll check the BIOS. Don't remember changing that, but who knows? System is
less than 4 years old, so I wouldn't think I'd need a new battery. And I'm
the only one in the house with the know-how to change the splash screen, so I
feel pretty safe on that score.
Thanks!

Have you contacted the computer tech support since this is something
specific to this hardware, and not an XP OS issue?
