I have a very peculiar problem. I had windows XP home installed and
somehow the OS became corrupted and i could not login to my computer
because the keyboard was not responding.

I used the OS installation CD to try and repair it. While doing this
the computer froze and i had no option but to shut it down. Due to this
the whole OS was corrupted.

Finally i installed another copy of the same OS on the same partition.
This OS boots and works fine, but i cannot access the "my documents"
folder from the previous installation.

Can someone help me with this problem???? I would really appreciate it
if someone could help...

When you repaired XP, your username received a new SID which makes you a
different user.

Refer to the article in Help & Support "How to take ownership of files and
folders".

You need to take ownership of the files. Take a look at these
articles for more info:

How to take ownership of a file or folder in Windows XP

"Access is Denied" Error Message When You Try to Open a Folder
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/810881

Note: Since you're running Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition,
you
must start the computer in safe mode, and then log on with an
account that has Administrative rights to have access to the
Security tab. To start in Safe Mode, reboot your computer and
start tapping the F8 key as soon as you see anything displayed
on the screen. Keep hitting F8 until the Advanced Startup
Options menu appears. Use the up and down arrow keys on your
keyboard to select Safe Mode. Hit Enter.

Good luck

Just take ownership of files :
Start > Run
hh ms-its:C:\WINDOWS\Help\aclui.chm::/acl_take_ownership.htm

That would be fine if the OP had posted that he was running XP
Professional Edition. If he had, I never would have responded
since Jim's answer would have led him to that article in Help
and Support.

Following your advice,

Start > Run
hh ms-its:C:\WINDOWS\Help\aclui.chm::/acl_take_ownership.htm

will only result in an error message in Windows XP Home
Edition.
