On the layout options on the Org Chart toolbar, deselect "autolayout."

Then insert a shape using the Insert Shape menu on the toolbar. Drag the
shape into place.

but when I do that just the shape is there not any lines
conecting the new shape with the chart. Do I need to draw
the lines to make it all conect? In PPT 2000 you just had
to two click the chart a in a new window you could do it
all

Well, when I add one here, the connector line is added automatically. I
can't actually see it until I drag the box up next to the first
"boss/director/top level person," though.

Once I've done that, I have to drag the yellow handles on the connector line
so that it goes where I need it to. Unfortunately, Org Charts don't let you
add coworkers on the top line, so you have to kind of fake it this way.

If I need another line -- say, one that goes from this codirector down to
the next subordinate level -- I go to my Draw toolbar, select Autoshapes,
and then select Connectors. I can add another connector by choosing one of
those and then drawing it in on the Org Chart.
