HOW CAN YOU TYPE + and/or -
in the same field so it looks like +/- (without the slash, i.e. superimposed

In other words I wish to type 2 characters ("+" and "-") in the same field.

Good Luck, Ayush.

Go to Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools ->
Character Map.
Note: You can also go to Start -> Run and enter charmap.exe in
the Open box and Click OK.
In Character Map, select the font you want and look in row six,
column twelve.
Click on the ± symbol.
Hit the Select button.
Click the Copy button.
You can now paste this character wherever you want in your
document.

You can also create this symbol by holding down the Alt key
while click on 0177 in the numeric keypad on the right hand
side of your keyboard. When you release the Alt key the symbol
will appear in your document.

Good luck
