Option For Dynamic Disk Missing

?

+

In the Disk Management snap-in when I secondary click on the Primary Master
& Primary Slave which are presently Basic Disks, the Convert to Dynamic Disk
option is not available.

Originally I had only the Primary Master as one active partition as a Basic
Disk. I added in an unpartitioned Primary Slave. I wanted to use that disk
to create a Dynamic Disk, then Ghost the Primary Master onto it, set that as
the Primary Master, and the original Primary Master as the Primary Slave.
Delete the partition on that, create a Dynamic volume and extend the volume
onto it, so I would have one 80GB partition VS two 40GB partitions.

Any ideas on what would cause the Convert to Dynamic Disk option would be
missing? I've never seen this before, and I can't find any solutions on
Microsoft's KB.

Thanks in advance,

Bob

That's very interesting!

Got a laptop with XP Home pre-installed, disc formatted NTFS. There is
a partition with NO type or disc letter, out at the end of the device,
past the C:\ main partition. I was told NTFS always sets that aside
just in case you want to go with Dynamic discs.

What gives?
