optimize.exe

Hi everyone,
This is my first time posting in this group. My problem is this: I ran AVG
6.0 and it keeps reporting a virus found in C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTERNET
OPTIMIZER\optimize.exe. I've tried to move the file to the virus vault, but
it won't move. I've tried to manually delete the file and I'm told the file
is in use or make sure the file isn't write protected. I tried using the
attrib -r command, and it won't budge.
The problem is I'm on a cable modem with a firewall, and didn't install any
internet optimizer program.
Has anyone else had this problem, and how did they
fix it??
Thanks in advance for replies...

use a floppy to boot into dos then delete it
there will probably be a reference to it in the registry find & remove it
if it comes back you will need to find out how to remove the specific
virus/worm

hope this helps

It's probably a dialler: "Adult content dialer that dials numbers specific
to porn related sites"

Check out this nsg for links to Hijackthis, also Spybot and
SpywareBlaster. Ditching MSIE for a more secure web browser (or using IE's
secure settings) should keep you out of trouble.

Install, update & run these programs. you've got spyware / malware on your
machine.

install Ad-Aware from Lavasoft http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/
removes spyware

install hijack this this is from a school & will only give you a log file,
which is ok, do a google & find 1 you can install & customize
http://www.siena.edu/antivirus/Spyware/hijackthis.htm this will tell you
what's still in your registry. tutorials on how & wat to delete are at.
http://hjt.wizardsofwebsites.com/

Get avg anti-virus from free 6.0 http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_index.php to
remove any virus's or trojans
& the last spyware removal to get is
http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=home. Update all & run. on
the spyware s&d make sue you run the immunizer as well.

I also forgot a registry cleaner program to keep it out of your system when
you reboot. http://www.sharewarejunkies.com/00zwd10/easycleaner.htm

Also, look at getting a firewall to prevent your browser getting hijacked I
like Zone alarm
