Optimization software

As most people would agree the optimization software that comes with XP and
the "Speed Disk" that Norton has leave alot to be desired. Does anyone, or
can someone recommend a "Good" optimization program.

it seems that now a days there is really anyone software that magically
transforms your machine into a speed demon, like when windows was younger
and was unable to optimize itself. With windows these days, there has been
much improvement by MS and computers are generally faster now too.

Basically, optimization is effective for defragmenting. Defragmenting ram,
defragmenting the harddrive, defragmenting the page file, hives, registry,
etc... is likely the only way to improve some performance. And the good
thing about it is that there's lots of freeware that can do these
things......

O&O defrag 2000 is pretty good, NTRegOpt is pretty good, ERunt is pretty
good, Pagedfrg from sysinternals.com is pretty good, C&Cleaner is pretty
good, CPUZ, FastDefrag by amsn.ro, etc.....

I agree & would add that any defrag run frequently is better
than any other run infrequently. I defrag a drive with XP
app when I image it - every 3 days for data & every 2 wks
for OS.

Random seek times = 5-7ms and reads are much faster so
you're not gonna notice any improvement unless u got alot of
fragged files. I defragged Registry 1x in 4yrs when there
was 20% fragged & didnt notice any change in response.

Just my 2¢ worth. Larry

Any advise given is my attempt to show appreciation for all
the excellent help I've received here but I'm no MVP so it
may only apply NUGS (Normally, Usually, Generally, Sometimes :)

Are you asking about defragmentation software?

I like Perfect Disk.
