just installed an optical mouse (optical scroll mouse by micro inovations) and the pointer keeps jumping around the screen
i've tried to get it to stop by uninstalling and re installing --no result. i hav e also tried to go to the control panel. but the button that controls the random movement feature is unchecked. what should i do

Are you using the mouse on a semi-glossy surface, like a finished desk?
I've heard this problem from many people and experienced it myself, and I've
found the easiest solution is to put something non-glossy under the mouse,
like a sheet of printer paper. Or, even though it's technically not needed
for an optical mouse, you may want to use a rubber mouse pad if you are not
currently.

is it wireless?

yes you definetly need some type of textured surface for
that optical mouse, a regular mouse pad works great.
it needs to see changes in the surface colors, for the
laser to reflect properly.

Go to the web site for your mouse and download the proper XP mouse driver.
