optical mouse problems in Word 97

Jeff

Hi

My wife uses Word 97 in a PC running Windows 98. I recently upgraded her
mouse to a "MS basic optical" mouse. Intermittently, after working fine, the
left mouse button will no longer move the cursor to where you click it
(although it works fine to select menu options, etc.) and she needs to shut
down Word and re-open it to get the mouse working again. I checked in the
Windows 98 device manager screen and it says the mouse is functioning
properly. The driver is the same PS/2 wheel mouse that she had with the
previous wheel mouse because when I changed the mouse, W98 did not see a
need to change the driver.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

G'Day Jeff,

I'd love to help, but it sounds as though you have a
Windows/Device problem, rather than a Word problem.

Can you "see" the cursor, and does it move when the
mouse moves?

So that the Left-Click is the problem?

Yes I suspect it is a device problem I will look for a new driver.

To answer your question, the cursor does not move with the mouse when this
happens, but as I mentioned it works for a while before it stops. I thought
it might be a "memory" problem but I will go to the Microsoft website and
look for a newer driver.
