Optical drives not refreshing

Here's a quick run down of the problem I am currently
experiencing:

Put cd in drive, it does not autoplay.
Remove the disc, put in completely new disc, previous
contents still show in my computer. Only a restart will
clear it.

This is occuring in all 3 drives in the same pc (dvdrom,
cdrw, dvdrw)

I just did a format and everything was working sweet
UNTIL i ran windows update and updated everything. One of
these updates caused the original problem to come back.

If somebody can please assist I am desperate!!!

Try your System Restorer and don't mass dowload, read em
keep what you really need all updates are not for everone
