I just set up a new system with two hard drives and two optical
drives. Hard drives are partitioned to C, D, E, and F.

XP has assigned G & H to the CD-Rom and the CD-R/W.

I can't find how to reassign the optical drives to X and Y.

What am I missing:

TIA

Hi,

Start/run diskmgmt.msc, right-click the optical drive, the option to change
the drive letter should be here.

Hi,

Start/run diskmgmt.msc, right-click the optical drive, the option to change
the drive letter should be here.

I had tried that numerous times, without success. But with your
advices I took another shot at it. No success again.

Then the light dawned! I noticed the slider in the bottom panel and
found, lo and behold!, when I dragged it down my optical drives
appeared. The right click solution worked and my opticals are now
renamed "W" and "X."

Interestingly, Partition Magic only shows the hard drives.

Thank you, sir, one headache resolved. I have another concerning no
sound, but that is for the ASUS newsgroup.

Control Panel - Admin Tools - Computer Management, select Disk
Management and look lower right for the graphic of the hard drives and
icons of the CDs. Right click in a partition or on a CD icon and
Change Drive letter. (It won't let you change the partition where the
Windows system is installed).

Hi Ted,

You are logged on with administrator priviledges, yes?
