Optical Drive problem

The other day I was ripping CD's - I had just ripped 3 cd's without a
problem and inserted the 4th - when suddenly windows XPPro reported that
there was no media in the drive.(Samsung CDRW/DVD SM-352F)
Windows reports that the drive is working properly and I have the latest
driver. I have cleaned the heads. Everything seems to be OK except that
the presence of a CD in the drive is not detected.
Is my drive dead despite what XP tells me?

Have you tried the other CDs that worked before (not the CD the caused the
error?)
