Opinion on motherboard kit

Martin

I'm looking to upgrade my pc sometime soon.

After a bit of browsing i've found the following:

Pentium 3.2GHz / 256Mb / Motherboard Kit

It's from www.watford.co.uk

http://tinyurl.com/5j4us

Total cost inc VAT £222.51

Now other than comments about Watfraud etc can anyone tell me what sort of
deal this is?
Good value for money?
Would it be cheaper to upgrade with separate components? (I think not).
Or is it old stock being sold cheaply to the unwary customer?

My present pc is a ECS K7S5A Pro with a Duron 1800.
2 x 256MB PC133 SDR RAM.
160GB and 40GB IDE drives.

I'd replace my CPU, motherboard and memory with the new kit and keep the
rest of my present components.
I'd also add at least another 256MBs of memory.

Thanks for any comments.

Martin.

As usual, Watfraud is selling old parts at extortionate prices. MSI (IMNSHO)
do *NOT* make good boards and that one is worth around £35. IMO, and that of
many here, ASUS make the best boards at the moment.

So, let's see

Board: £35
RAM: £30 (from Crucial)

Which leaves £192.51 for the CPU. And I know, FOR A FACT, that a 3.2GHz can
be had for around £120 inc VAT.

So, no it isn't good value and the components are of poor quality.

Exactly - it's not worth it.

Get an Athlon 64 processor instead. Processors that are only 32 bit,
and that don't have integrated memory controller(s) are old technology.
Don't pay a high price for old technology.

And how do you propose he's going to be able to plug a 939 CPU into a 478
socket?

Get a new motherboard.

Well that's my mind made up - shan't bother with it.

I think i'll wait and see what happens in the AMD 64 bit scene in the next
few months before i upgrade.

Thanks for all the comments.
